Personal Experience with iPhone 2.0 Firmware. Good
It’s been almost a month since I updated my iPhone to 2.0 firmware and jailbroken it. Broken with pwnage tool 2, the breaking process was quite easy, as I figured it out in the end. With default pwnage setting I got Cydia, it’s an Installer competitor. As I figured out Cydia is more user and developer (also hacker) friendly.
My 1.1.4 firmware iPhone was broken with ziPhone, and I have to say to you, after I upgraded to 2.0, my battery life was twice better as it used to be before. Maybe it’s the ziPhone breakage sucks, or apple did so much optimization that OS now consumes less battery, I don’t know, but the end result is still very good, I have the same battery life as it was when I first got my iPhone. Impressive.
Favorite Apps so far:
- Trism - Very nice “puzzle” app, I played the demoon 1.1.4, so i decided to buy the full version now, pretty good game, with 3 different gaming modes it makes the game even better. Best game you can get on the iPhone, and only on iPhone, because it uses touchscreen and accelerometer. There is a luck factor in the game but still, for $4.99 it’s very good game, I would even pay twice as that for it!
- Cube Runner - A free game, navigate your “ship” through randomly placed cubes and labyrinths using accelerometer. Pretty good game, it’s a pity it’s free, but I’m sure developer must be putting an effort in the paid version. As it is free, the graphics are lousy and there are only 3 levels, but you can make your own if you know how to program them.
- GTS World Racing - Car racing game, pretty classic ones, good, not great graphics. I really like the control, you steer, accelerate and break by tilting the phone. 4 play modes, I’m still completing the Challenge Cup, since you can only play this game while sitting still, I like to play games while I’m in the process of lying on the bed. So, for $7.99, quite a time killer, but price should be a little lower in my opition, I still don’t regret.
- Light - a free light app that makes your screen completely white + maximum brightness. There are so many apps like that in App Store, I prefer this one because it’s free and is controllable through Setting, not itself. I don’t need this control but it’s better when you screen is solid white :)
- Remote - a remote controller of iTunes application on your Mac or PC with your iphone, very good, I bet you already heard of it. Free, published by Apple.
- Eventful - keep informed about events in your area, demand artists to your town, see your what events your friend are going to visit and more. It’s actually a client app for website www.eventful.com, I like it. There is also an alternative app by Yellow Pages, YPMobile app, Events tab. Eventful is Free.
- midomi - Song recognition application, works pretty well for me, now I’m out of songs I know that don’t have a name for me. Free

I’m looking forward to buy MobileFinder, Super Monkey Ball, BeatMaker and some more racing games, maybe also a puzzle game.
What I have to add is that App Store is a big success for Apple, bringing applications right to the user. Apple recently confirmed App Store brought them $30 million and 60 million apps downloaded. Knowing Apple gets 30% of an Application price, it’s $100 million paid for 60 million apps, as long as most apps are free, and other are more than $1,7 I’m not afraid to tell that free apps are most commenly used (who woulda thought? :)
